What can I tell you about myself?
I am not going to tell you my age, star sign, height,
colour of my eyes etc. However, if you want to guess
any of these fascinating facts, just send them to me
and I will reply letting you know how accurate you have
been!
In brief, I have been playing music since an early age
and cannot imagine life without it. My father was a
professional oboist. Until recently he conducted the
Shaftesbury Orchestra for 14 years and I played trumpet
in it for some of that time. The trumpet has become my
other main instrument. I also play in a brass ensemble.
I enjoy composing melodies for the band and other
instruments. Some of these compositions are on my
album, >Dreaming of the Next
Tide, plus the band recordings.
I enjoy a wide range of music from folk to classical to
jazz.
I also do landscape gardening for a living and it
keeps me fit and healthy.
I am a family man who enjoys cooking (and eating) and
very fortunate to have such a busy, fulfilling and
enjoyable life.
I have recently been inventing new instruments from
plumbing materials as part of the Common Ground
Confluence project, the most famous of which is the
'Boghorn' (2 octave brass instrument tuned to Bb made
from a new loo!) Since then I have developed a 30
stringed 'bath harp'. These and many others are
featured in my solo show called 'Plumbing New
Depths'.See my website >nickcrump.co.uk , plus
the band recordings.
I also run sessions in primary schools as a 'music man'
demonstrating and talking about instruments and music,
playing the recorders, Irish bagpipes, serpent and
other invented instruments. 'Enthuse and inspire',
music should be fun. The primary purpose being to
encourage every child to take up music. If you would
like to book me for your school as a solo artist or
with colleagues, please get in touch via this website
or ring 01747 853176 or e-mail: nick@crump.demon.co.uk
